Induction Into Care/Care Certificate

The National Minimum Training Standards for Healthcare support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England which has recently replaced Skills For Care have refreshed the Common Induction Standards to ensure they are fit for purpose and reflect current policy and practice. The standards are for people entering social care, and those changing roles or employers within social care.

Our 5 Day Induction into Care Training meets all the refreshed standards set by Skills for Care and enables new staff members to receive all the mandatory training to have the knowledge and skills required to start work for your organisation.

As a company we understand the pressures of care organisations in relation to staff training and development and have devised this “one stop shop” course which will equip all new care staff will all the essential knowledge and skills required to deliver the best possible safe effective care.

 

Who Should Attend?

The Induction into Care Training course is aimed at care workers entering the social care field for the first time or for care workers changing employers within the social care environment. This Induction Inot Care Training Course normally can take 12 weeks to complete but here at the Centre For Business Development, we have a 5 day course enabling you or your staff to start work sooner. This is following Care Quality Commission Guidelines.

 

Aims and Objectives

This introduction to Health Induction into Care training course will provide knowledge of a number of key areas that will underpin the practice of working with people with a physical or mental disability. Our course

 

Day 1

An induction to the health and care industry and your role as a support worker. We will look at the role of a support worker including the values and standards required.

This first day starts with looking at the Role of the Care Worker, you will learn your own responsibilities and limits, look at agreed ways of working with your employer and individuals.  The importance of working in partnership with others and understand how to handle information in agreed ways.

The Duty of Care session addresses dilemma’s that may arise between an individual’s rights and the duty of care.  You will know how to recognise and handle comments and complaints and understand how to deal with adverse events, incidents, errors and near misses.

Person-Centred Support covers how to promote person-centred values in your everyday work, recognise features of working in a person-centred way.  Understand how to support active participation and know the importance of supporting an individual in making choices.

The first day concludes with a communication session which includes the importance of effective communication, meeting the communication needs of individuals overcoming difficulties in promoting communication and understanding practices and principles that relate to confidentiality.

 

 

Day 2

On this second day we will look at Safeguarding of Vulnerable Individuals.  This mandatory session will cover understanding the main types of abuse and recognising signs and symptoms associated with each type of abuse.  We will discuss how to respond to suspected or disclosed abuse and know what actions to take.  You will also be aware of report into serious failures to protect individuals from harm and abuse and their impact on individuals and organisations.

The day will continue with understanding Equality & Diversity.  The session will include understand what is meant by equality, diversity and discrimination.  How you can reduce discrimination and understand what practices can promote equality and inclusion.

The Tissue Viability session learners will cover how to identify the causes of pressure and other related sores, understand the stages of pressure sores and the consequences of non-treatment and be able to explain preventative measures they can take as a care worker.

Personal Development is also a vital part of your role as a care worker and this session will equip you will essential knowledge and tools to be able to reflect on your practice, record your personal progress and understand why feedback is important.

 

Day 3

This day is dedicated to Health & Safety, the first session looks at all aspects of health and safety including the Health and Safety at Work Act and how it impacts on the working lives of staff and employers. The Reporting Of Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).  This session also covers stress and how to recognise and deal with your own personal stress.

Food Safety is another mandatory training session you explore what controls needs to be put in place to prevent contamination of food and the causes of food poisoning and its impact and understanding good practices in relation to food hygiene.

A very interesting Infection Control session follows.   We take a look at how infections can spread and the ways of protecting ourselves and the people we work with and understanding the importance of personal hygiene and personal protective clothing (PPE).

We conclude this Health & Safety day with Fire Safety.  Along with a DVD to view we look at fire prevention, equipment, risk assessment and what to do in the event of a fire.

 

Day 4

Day 4 starts with a session on Safe Handling and Administration of Medication.  This session covers the following areas:

  • Roles & Responsibilities of staff in administering medication
  • Preparing Medication
  • Consent
  • Hygiene precautions and equipment
  • Recording outcomes and risk assessments
  • Legislation & Guidance
  • Agreed ways of working
  • Common Side-effects
  • Disposing of drugs safely

 

You will also be involved in a simulated practical assessment of administering medications.

The afternoon session will be dedicated to First Aid Awareness.  Our session includes DRABC and the secondary survey. Following this you will learn skills in relation to, choking, shock, fainting, bleeding and wound care. Also included are, angina, heart attacks, strokes and burns. CPR and Recovery position are also included.

 

Day 5

Day 5 will be spent covering Moving and Handling. You will look at safety, legislation and reducing back and other manual handling related injuries. A practical element is included in the course to teach you approved moving and handling techniques and safely use a variety of different equipment including the use of hoists, wheelchairs and other lifting aids.

The final day may also be tailored to meet your organisational requirements.

 

Trainers/Tutors

All our trainers are fully qualified in moving and handling training and have a number of years’ experience working within the care skills sector.  All trainers and tutor undergo continuous training to inform them of changes to legislation and safe work practices.

 

Assessment and Certification

Practical assessments and underpinning knowledge will be assessed and facilitated by the trainer.  A 5 Day Induction into Care will be issued along with separate certificates for all mandatory training completed.

We are accredited by NCFE and you can choose whether you wish to register for an accredited certificate.
